 I am a self taught artist and have been drawing and painting animals on and off for most of my life. I use mainly soft pastels and I have recently started to use graphite pencils again . I used to use oils but now prefer pastels. I have always had a passion for animals, and can't image being without animals in my life.
I have kept setters since 1971 both Irish and English setters. In fact, I met my husband Des whilst walking my two setters, and Des at that time had 3 English Springer Spaniels. We had the 5 dogs for many years. At the moment we have two beautiful Irish Setter brothers Toby and Murphy and have added a beautiful orange roan Cocker Spaniel called Pip. We also have pet goats and sheep. Sadly I have never been able to keep a horse of my own ,which are a great love of mine, but at least I get to meet a great deal of horses now through  my work.
I started to paint pet portraits several years ago now, and enjoy it very much. Many pet owners that I have done commissions for have commented on the way I have brought out the character of their four legged friends in my work. I also sell animal paintings, mainly at the many agricultural shows in the summer. My paintings have sold all over the world. I also paint for myself always animals ether my own or animals I see in fields, or the wildlife I see on our walks with the dogs in the wonderful countryside, here in the beautiful Cambrian mountains in west Wales. |
